A quick status update on where the Map Combo Study stands.

ETS2 1.61: the mega combo is taking longer than planned

I’m building a big mega map combo for ETS2 1.61, and it has taken more time than I expected. A lot of new maps were released and many existing ones got updates, so the setup kept moving under my feet. Trucksim is a hobby project and my time is limited, so I’m deliberately not publishing interim versions. I’d rather put the effort into one major, properly tested setup than hand out a string of half-finished ones.

The goal is to finish the new ETS2 combo this weekend. I can’t promise it, but that’s the target.

ATS: the big combo is done

The good news is on the American side. The larger ATS map combo is finished, and it should stay current for the entire 1.61 cycle. It includes most of the free maps that are available and can be combined right now.

I had planned to add paid mods as well, but that needs its own additional setup, and again time is the limit. For now the ATS combo covers free maps only.

What else is on the list

Alongside the combos, there are a few things I want to finish:

  • Events that still need to be wrapped up
  • More varied videos built around my own routes (see the North Dakota Routes)
  • 100% discovery guides
  • Hidden roads guides

Don’t forget about Beginner’s Guide which help new comers to dive to combos world. It will save you time, prevent recurring issues, and help you create a stable and enjoyable setup from the start.

Hidden Roads Study – October, 13 2026

0 commentsAmerican Truck SimulatorEuro Truck SimulatorMaps1.61ATSDLCEaster EggsETS2Guidehidden roadsProximity Explorationsecretssneak peekSouth Dakotateaser

A quick recap what is going on with hidden (or secret) roads in ATS and ETS2. First of all – Proximity Exploration feature released in 1.61 can help you to find most of the secret roads without any guides. You can turn on or off the feature but anyway it is the biggest change in the game on this topic since 2022, when hidden roads came as markable objects in version 1.44. For sure some roads are real secret and even with this feature you need to go around all roads to find the location of unmarked path. So for some time I will continue to update my guides.
Big guides need to be updated – for ETS2 I have to check what is wrong with roads number – double check how many roads we have and what I missed. For ATS with 1.61 we got new DLC South Dakota where 10 new roads found (video below) but additionally I also have to check again count of roads and correct it accordingly. It will take some time on my side. So below you can find current existent guides more or less actual on 1.61 but not fully accurate. Guides for Europe with 114 roads and 281 in America are available on my channel excluding South Dakota. But below you can see 10 new roads footages in this new expansion. And the next big update will be I guess closer to the end of the year with Iceland and British Columbia DLCs.
If I find any new roads or you suggest one I will not update it instantly since I skip mid-tier guide videos because of low views on YouTube. The same issue affects 100% discovery guides and map combo content. I know there’s interest from my audience, but without YouTube helping push this type of content, it quickly gets buried.

You can always check the complete list of cities with hidden paths here: https://trucksim.top/y9t6. It probably won’t reveal the exact secret road locations, but it can help you figure out if you missed any areas.

We have guides for 100% in both games but for Europe it is actual for 1.60 and there are no dramatic changes in 1.61 and bear in mind that if you combine ETS2 vanilla map with Promods as I did in below video, you will get 100% on that profile. In ATS 1.61 I added South Dakota DLC and other small pieces appeared with Road Trip.
Below you can find 100% for ATS and ETS2. As well as 100% on ProMods 2.84.
I’m not sharing my RoExtended profile with 100% since nobody asks.
I believe my guides will be less useful since starting of 1.61 we got Proximity Exploration feature and you can get your 100% with your truck or car (or later bus) without profile modifications and all this stuff. To be honest I’m so tired of this infinite race for 100% and I will do it as long as enjoy it on my side.

ATS 1.61 – 100% Explored map with all DLC including South Dakota (October 2026)

ETS2 1.60 – 100% Explored map with all DLC (July 2026, all map DLCs)

Promods 2.84 on ETS2 1.61 – 100% Explored Promods map (October 2026, including Vanilla, all DLC)

I do these discovery since 2017 and I discover whole map almost on every game versions including all expansions and reworks.

American Truck Simulator South Dakota DLC Release Date

1 commentsAmerican Truck SimulatorMaps1.61ATSDLCreleaseSouth Dakota

SCS Software announced the date of release of new South Dakota DLC. It will happen September, 24 and probably after release of new version of the game 1.61. Official trailer is available on Youtube.

Welcome to the Mount Rushmore State

South Dakota was officially announced by SCS Software in June 2025. The state sits in the North Central region of the United States and offers a diverse landscape ranging from endless prairies and agricultural fields to the rugged Black Hills and the famous Badlands.

According to SCS, players can expect:

  • Vast prairie landscapes
  • The Missouri River dividing the state
  • Scenic Black Hills roads
  • The Badlands National Park region
  • Agricultural, forestry, and mining industries
  • Numerous small towns and rural communities

Confirmed Cities

SCS has already confirmed several cities that will appear in the DLC:

  • Sioux Falls
  • Rapid City
  • Mitchell
  • Pierre (state capital)

The developers also mentioned smaller settlements including:

  • Deadwood
  • Wall
  • Sturgis

Additional cities are expected to be revealed during development.

The Research Trip

Long before development began publicly, members of the map team traveled across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota to gather reference material.

According to map lead Saimon, the team visited the state in 2023, collecting thousands of photographs and documenting local industries, landmarks, road layouts, and scenery. The purpose was to capture details that cannot be found through satellite imagery alone.

This research phase has become a key part of modern ATS map development and often results in more accurate depictions of roads, businesses, and regional atmosphere.

Truck Stops

Several previews have focused on truck stops throughout the state.

Confirmed locations include truck stops near:

  • The Iowa border along I-29
  • Yankton near the Missouri River
  • Alzada near the Montana border

SCS states that many of these facilities are based on real-world locations and vary from small rural rest areas to larger service centers.

The inclusion of the Alzada truck stop was particularly welcomed by the ATS community because players had been discussing its potential appearance for quite some time.

Custom Depots and Industries

South Dakota’s economy is heavily influenced by agriculture, and SCS appears determined to represent that.

Custom depots showcased so far include:

  • Farms
  • Agricultural facilities
  • Rural industrial locations
  • Specialized cargo destinations

Developers have also recreated elements of the Great Plains Shelterbelt, adding more regional authenticity to the landscape.

Expect farming to play a major role in the cargo market, alongside forestry and mining operations.

Roads and Highways

The state’s transportation network will primarily revolve around two major interstate corridors:

Interstate 90

The main east-west route crossing South Dakota.

Interstate 29

The north-south corridor serving the eastern portion of the state.

Both highways are expected to form the backbone of freight movement across the DLC.

The Black Hills region will likely provide some of the most scenic driving experiences in ATS, featuring winding roads, forests, and elevation changes not commonly found in the Great Plains.

Landmarks and Scenic Areas

While SCS has not yet revealed a complete landmark list, several iconic locations have already been highlighted:

  • Badlands region
  • Black Hills
  • Missouri River
  • Mount Rushmore State scenery
  • Prairie landscapes
  • Sunflower fields
  • Native American cultural areas

The developers repeatedly emphasize the importance of showcasing both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of South Dakota.

Community Speculation and Future Connections

The ATS community reacted positively to the announcement, with many players noting that South Dakota continues the game’s gradual expansion toward the eastern United States. Community discussions also immediately turned toward neighboring North Dakota and future Midwest states.

SCS announced North Dakota as well, and South Dakota as an important step toward completing the northern corridor of the United States.

North Dakota teased

1 commentsAmerican Truck SimulatorMapsNews2027ATSDakotasDLCfuturenorth dakotaSouth DakotateaserTrucksim

SCS teased on their social media a next upcoming DLC for ATS (which will be after South Dakota and British Columbia expansions). Gigantic fish monument tells us that it will be North Dakota – World’s Largest Catfish is in Wahpeton, ND – famous for the Red River of the North, a premier fishery for channel catfish, walleye, and northern pike.

After the South Dakota it is quite predictable step in USA and we can assume this DLC will out nor early that 2027-2028.

Release Date

As of June 2026, SCS Software has not announced an official release date for the South Dakota DLC. Development is actively progressing, with regular blog updates continuing throughout 2025 and 2026.

Final Thoughts

South Dakota may not be the largest state in ATS, but it has the potential to become one of the most diverse. Between the Badlands, Black Hills, agricultural industries, historic towns, and major interstate corridors, the DLC appears to offer a balanced mix of scenic driving and freight opportunities.

Based on everything shown so far, South Dakota is shaping up to be another high-quality expansion that continues SCS Software’s push toward the Midwest and eventually the eastern United States.
